Two Scoops: Mallard Ice Cream, Bellingham, WA

The heart of Bellingham’s historic district is a treasure trove of little novelty shops, restaurants, and home to Mallard Ice Cream.

The atmosphere within is eclectic, with a modern and unique ice cream parlor fusion.  The seats have a futuistic ice cream scoop shape, something you would likely see in a old Jetson’s re-run.  Just a funky kind of flare that exudes Bellingham and makes it one-of-a-kind.

Their homemade ice cream flavors are as wild as the decor – Chai Tea, Licorice, Cinnamon, Maple Nut, Vanilla Malt, Honey Cheesecake, Honey Apricot, Nectarine, and the list goes on and on.  You can even log in online and view their updated “Flav-o-cam.”

I ordered the Chai Tea and my husband ordered the Maple Nut.  Both had a high-quality creaminess that left us longing for more.  The Chai Tea was, however, exceptional.  It didn’t just meet my expectations but exceeded them by leaps and bounds … more like off the charts and to “infinity and beyond.”  It had all the flavors of a perfectly sweetened chai ice-tea – cardamom, vanilla, ginger, and black tea to name a few.  The taste just blended into nothing short of an intoxicating dessert that pleased not only the palette but the senses too.

While both ice creams were delicious, I would travel to Bellingham time and again to search out this uniquely creative Chai Tea concoction that definitely brings a little Heaven to earth.

    What I love about Ben’s Chai is the balance of flavors keeps the tea front and center.
